The Sony VAIO S series has just seen a latest addition in the form of the 15.5 inch laptop which was released recently. This is a full $100 over the Sony’s own 13 inch models and would be priced at around $1000. It would be featuring a screen which is capable of doing justice to a full HD screen of 1080 pixels.
Hardware
The laptop obviously features a 15.5 inch screen which is capable of reproducing a full HD image of 1080 p and it can also be configured to be fitted with a Blu-ray drive and is fully capable of doing justice to anything that you might play on the Blu-ray drive.
The keyboard differs from that of the 13 inch since the extra footprint allows for a much larger space and Sony has squeezed in a full number pad in the backlit Chiclet keyboard.
The laptop is equipped with a 3.0 USB port along with two more USB ports on the right side. Accompanying these are a HDMI port, a VGA port, an Ethernet port and a pair of card readers, separate slots for MagicGate and SD cards. The left side can be configured to fit any of the variety of readers or writers.
Processor Performance
The Intel Core i5-2430M processor which runs this system clocks at about 2.4GHz and comes with 6GB of memory and dedicated AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics with 1GB of memory.
Most normal operations find the configuration more than sufficient to run the system smoothly and multi-tasking is a breeze on the system. The High Definition content from elsewhere does not pose any problems as Blu-rays manage to play seamlessly on the screen. The 50 second bootup time makes sure that you do not waste your time waiting for it.
Multimedia
The display is the hallmark of this device and it does not fail to impress. The full HD screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 is perfect for both multi-tasking and running videos in High definition. The viewing angle is very impressive and the matt finish of the screen is another added bonus to this laptop. The contrast ratio of the display is also very good and you are guaranteed a very good High definition viewing experience.
Conclusion
The 15 inch VAIO S series is definitely worth the money when compared to the 13 inch models especially as it scored on the 1080p aspect as a 13 inch screen hardly can do justice to it. Of course this comes with the slightly reduced battery life and a slightly larger body.
The laptop weighs an incredibly light 4.4 pounds for something this size and it is an added bonus for those of you on the move.
